Order taken from Marvel’s official MCU timeline (June 2026 update). Disney+ adds new titles as they reach the service.
How it differs from our chronological order
Our chronological order uses the same timeline, then slots in 14 titles that aren’t on the Disney+ timeline. First, Spider-Man: Brand New Day is in our order but not yet added to the Disney+ timeline. It’s a main-story release, so it will likely be added once it reaches the service. The other 13 are titles Marvel leaves out of the official list:
- WHIH Newsfront: Season 1
- WHIH Newsfront: Season 2
- Marvel One-Shot: Team Thor
- Marvel One-Shot: Team Thor, Part 2
- Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.: Slingshot
- Marvel One-Shot: Team Darryl
- Peter's To-Do List
- The Daily Bugle: Season 1
- The Daily Bugle: Season 2
- VisionQuest: Season 1
- X-Men '97: Season 1
- X-Men '97: Season 2
- Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man: Season 1
Those are short promotional pieces (the Team Thor mockumentaries, WHIH Newsfront, The Daily Bugle) or animated series set in their own universes (X-Men ’97, Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man). None of them is required viewing.
What about the Netflix shows? Marvel added Daredevil, Jessica Jones, Luke Cage, Iron Fist, The Defenders and The Punisher to its official Disney+ timeline in 2024, when it folded the Defenders saga into MCU canon. We keep them in a separate Marvel TV watch order so the main list stays manageable; are the Netflix shows canon? explains where they fit.
Should you use it?
For a rewatch, yes; it’s the most reliable timeline available, and Disney+ does the sorting for you. For a first watch we’d still go with release order, because the timeline puts prequels like Captain Marvel early and gives away reveals that were meant to come later. If time is the problem, try the beginner path.
One practical gap: a few Sony-distributed Spider-Man films aren’t always on Disney+ in every region, so the in-app timeline can have holes. Each film page here lists current US streaming options.
FAQ
How do I find the timeline order on Disney+?
Open the Marvel hub in the Disney+ app and choose the Timeline Order collection, or sort the Marvel Cinematic Universe collection by timeline. Exact menus vary by device.
What is first in the Disney+ Marvel timeline order?
Eyes of Wakanda: Season 1, followed by Captain America: The First Avenger and Marvel One-Shot: Agent Carter.
Is the Disney+ timeline order the same as chronological order?
Almost. It is Marvel’s official chronological order, and our chronological order follows it, then adds 14 titles the Disney+ list doesn’t include, mostly short promotional pieces and animated series set in their own universes. Fan-made lists sometimes differ slightly on titles that overlap in time, such as the Phase One films.
Should I use Disney+ timeline order or release order?
Release order on a first watch, timeline order on a rewatch.
