About WHIH Newsfront: Season 1
The 2015 run of WHIH Newsfront presents itself as a real cable news broadcast from WHIH World News, the network that appears throughout the MCU. Over five short videos, anchor Christine Everhart covers the world after Avengers: Age of Ultron, including relief efforts in Sokovia. She also follows a story that becomes important two weeks later: the upcoming prison release of Scott Lang, the burglar behind the 2012 VistaCorp break-in.
Marvel Studios made the series as viral marketing for Ant-Man, posting it on a WHIH YouTube channel from July 2 to 16, 2015, with some videos debuting through Mashable, BuzzFeed and WIRED Insider. Leslie Bibb reprises Everhart from the Iron Man films. Paul Rudd appears as Lang in a video interview from San Quentin, and Corey Stoll plays Pym Technologies CEO Darren Cross in a WIRED Insider segment. The clips run from 28 seconds to just over three minutes. Critics thought it was one of Marvel's smarter marketing ideas.
Good to know
- Paul Rudd and Corey Stoll both appear in character in clips released ahead of Ant-Man's opening.
- Security footage of Lang's VistaCorp break-in shows the crime that sent him to prison.
- The on-screen news ticker includes MCU Easter eggs, including references to Jane Foster and Stephen Strange.
- The videos appear as bonus features on the Ant-Man Blu-ray.
How to watch it
Watch these five clips after Avengers: Age of Ultron and right before Ant-Man, which is when they're set. Together they take about ten minutes. The Scott Lang interview and the Darren Cross segment matter most, since they set up both sides of Ant-Man. Completists will want them, and they're a fun look at the MCU from the point of view of ordinary people watching the news.
