About Marvel Watch Order
Updated
Marvel Watch Order (marvelwatchorder.com) is an independent platform built around one question: what should I watch next? We cover all 81 released titles on the MCU timeline and another 170 released Marvel movies and shows made outside it, from the 1944 Captain America serial to the newest releases, plus everything Marvel has announced.
It’s more than a list. Every watch order lives alongside a tracker that remembers what you’ve seen, a planner that tells you when you’ll finish, and a page for every title with the facts you’d otherwise look up in five different tabs.
Who runs Marvel Watch Order
Marvel Watch Order is independently owned and run by Marvel fans based in the USA. Its editorial team researches, writes, checks and updates every page, from the watch orders and grades to the streaming listings, and is responsible for everything published here. No studio, streaming service or advertiser reviews or approves our content.
We publish as a team rather than under individual bylines, but you’re never writing into a void: every email to [email protected] is read by the people who maintain the site. How we work, from grading titles to handling corrections, is set out in our editorial standards.
Why we built it
Marvel is easy to love and hard to keep up with. There are films, Disney+ series, specials, One-Shots, Netflix shows that are now canon, Fox and Sony films that sometimes are and sometimes aren’t, and a release schedule that keeps moving. Most watch-order lists answer one version of the question and stop. We wanted a single place that answers all of them honestly: the full order, the short order, the order for a specific character, and a straight “do I actually need this?” for the titles people argue about.
What you’ll find here
- Every way to watch: release order, chronological order, a curated order for beginners, the essentials only, and watch orders for each character and team. Every guide is listed on all watch orders.
- A page for every title with its release date, runtime, ratings, box office, cast, where it’s streaming in the US, where it fits in the timeline and what to watch before it. 170 of them also carry a longer guide written for fans.
- Prep guides for each new release, like what to watch before Avengers: Doomsday, with a countdown and a check on whether you can finish in time.
- Free tools: a watch tracker that saves your progress without an account, a marathon planner, a printable checklist and a release calendar you can add to your phone.
How we decide the order
For the MCU we follow Marvel Studios’ own timeline, the one Disney+ sorts its Timeline Order by. Where fans genuinely disagree, such as where Captain Marvel or the Fantastic Four belong, we say so on the page, explain both sides and tell you which one we picked. Titles from outside the MCU are listed in release order unless the studios themselves say otherwise.
Every title also gets a grade: Essential if the main story depends on it, Recommended if it adds a lot but you’ll follow without it, and Optional if it’s safe to skip. Those grades are our editorial judgment, not Marvel’s, and we revisit them when new releases change what matters.
Where our information comes from
- Release dates, cast and production facts: official Marvel and Disney announcements, cross-checked against Wikipedia’s film and series articles.
- Box office: Box Office Mojo figures, as reported on Wikipedia.
- Ratings: IMDb user ratings and Rotten Tomatoes critic scores.
- Streaming: we check each service ourselves, country by country, and show the date we last verified it on every page.
If we can’t confirm something, we leave it out or label it as unconfirmed rather than guess. Upcoming dates are marked as targets until they’re locked in.
Keeping it current
New releases are added within days, streaming availability is rechecked regularly, and every meaningful change is logged on our What’s New page, including corrections. If a page says “Updated”, that date means something changed, not that a script touched it.
Spotted a mistake?
Marvel fans notice everything, and we’d rather hear about an error than leave it up. Email us at the address above with the page and what’s wrong, and we’ll fix it and note it in the changelog.
Independence
Marvel Watch Order is an independent website. We’re not affiliated with, endorsed by or sponsored by Marvel Entertainment, Marvel Studios, The Walt Disney Company, Sony Pictures or any streaming service.
