About WHIH Newsfront: Season 2
The 2016 installment of WHIH Newsfront is a short "Special Report" that moves from heist news to politics. Its five videos cover the question at the heart of Captain America: Civil War: should the Avengers answer to the government? Segments debate who should pay for the damage the heroes leave behind, look at President Ellis's stance on the team and follow retired general Thaddeus Ross's move into politics. The run ends with breaking news of an attack in Lagos.
Marvel released these clips from April 22 to May 3, 2016, as part of the Civil War marketing campaign, supported by in-universe social media posts. Leslie Bibb returns as Christine Everhart, who argues for oversight. The new face is Al Madrigal as political correspondent Will Adams, who's more willing to let the Avengers act. William Sadler reprises President Matthew Ellis from Iron Man 3 in a sit-down interview and a live statement. Reviewers noted that the coverage makes superhero disasters feel believable.
Good to know
- Al Madrigal joins as Will Adams, appearing only in this installment.
- William Sadler's President Ellis discusses nominating Thaddeus Ross for Secretary of State, the job Ross holds in Civil War.
- The final clip, "WHIH Breaking News: Attack in Lagos", leads straight into the opening mission of Civil War.
- Everhart and Adams arguing on screen mirrors the Iron Man and Captain America split.
How to watch it
Watch these after Ant-Man and before Captain America: Civil War. Together they run under 15 minutes. Save the Lagos breaking-news clip for last, right before you start the movie, since it hands off almost directly to the opening scenes. The Ellis interview is the most useful for following the Sokovia Accords. These are a fun extra for fans who like the political side of the MCU and want more of the world's reaction.
