The strangest Marvel film of 1994 is the one nobody was allowed to see. Roger Corman and Bernd Eichinger's The Fantastic Four, made for around $1 million, was set to premiere on January 19 at the Mall of America. The premiere was halted, the cast was told to stop promoting it, and Marvel executive Avi Arad later said he bought the film and ordered the prints destroyed without watching it.
Television made up for it. Spider-Man: The Animated Series premiered on Fox Kids on November 19, with Christopher Daniel Barnes as Peter Parker. Its final episodes sent Peter across parallel universes to meet other Spider-Men, years before the Spider-Verse films. In syndication, The Marvel Action Hour paired new Iron Man and Fantastic Four cartoons. Fox also bought the X-Men film rights that year.
