The unreleased Roger Corman adaptation, famously made only to retain film rights. This 1994 Marvel film was made outside Marvel Studios’ main MCU line-up, so it’s optional for the watch order and works fine on its own. It runs 1h 30m.

Why it matters now
The unreleased Roger Corman film, made only to hold on to the film rights and never meant to come out. It's now one of the best-known bits of Marvel trivia.
About The Fantastic Four
This was an early, low-budget attempt to bring Marvel's first family to the big screen. College friends Reed Richards and Victor Von Doom try an experiment powered by a passing comet, it goes wrong, and Victor is believed dead. Ten years later Reed, Sue, Johnny and Ben fly Reed's spacecraft through the comet's path, but a thief called the Jeweler has swapped the ship's protective diamond for a fake, and the cosmic rays give all four of them powers. Victor, now ruling as Doctor Doom, wants that diamond to fire a laser at New York.
Constantin Film's Bernd Eichinger held an option on the characters that was due to run out on December 31, 1992, so he teamed up with Roger Corman on a film budgeted at about $1 million. Music video director Oley Sassone started shooting on December 28, 1992. Alex Hyde-White, Rebecca Staab, Jay Underwood and Michael Bailey Smith play the team, with Joseph Culp as Doom. A January 1994 premiere was announced and then called off, and Marvel executive Avi Arad later said he bought the film and ordered the prints destroyed. It survives through bootlegs, and critics who have seen it call it cheap and campy.

How to watch it
This one sits outside any viewing order. It was never officially released, so bootlegs are the only way to see it. Watch it as a piece of Marvel history, ideally alongside the Doomed! documentary, which explains how it was made and why it vanished. It also makes a fun companion to The Fantastic Four: First Steps, which has a soft spot for the team's screen history. B-movie fans will have the most fun with it; anyone expecting a polished superhero film should keep expectations low.
