Marvel in 1996

1996 was the low point for Marvel as a business. Ron Perelman's leadership ended in October, and on December 27 the Marvel group of companies filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy. Earlier that year, though, Marvel had set up Marvel Studios on August 7 and signed a seven-year development deal with 20th Century Fox, a sign that the company already saw film as a way forward.

On screen, Fox aired the TV movie Generation X on February 20, with Finola Hughes as Emma Frost and Jeremy Ratchford as Banshee, as a test for a possible series. It didn't get one. UPN premiered a new animated Incredible Hulk on September 8, and Lou Ferrigno, the live-action Hulk of the 1970s, provided the voice. In season two the show added She-Hulk as a co-star.
