Who is Star-Lord?
Steve Englehart and Steve Gan created Star-Lord for Marvel Preview #4 in January 1976, long before anyone thought of putting him on a team. The early Peter Quill is a NASA astronaut who takes up the Star-Lord title and works as a sort of interplanetary policeman, carrying an Element Gun. In the comics he is the son of the human Meredith Quill and the Spartoi J'son. He became a far bigger name after the 2008 relaunch, leading the Guardians through Annihilation, War of Kings and The Thanos Imperative, and later ruling over Spartax.
Chris Pratt has played him since Guardians of the Galaxy in 2014, with Wyatt Oleff as young Peter in the first two films. The films keep the abduction and change almost everything else. Quill is taken from Missouri by Yondu's Ravagers in 1988 after his mother's death and raised as a thief, not an astronaut. His father is a different figure from the comics too, and Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 is built around finally meeting him.
Avengers: Infinity War and Endgame hit Quill harder than most of the team, and he spends Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 (2023) as the least steady member of his own crew. Chris Pratt isn't in the announced cast for Avengers: Doomsday, so a return has not been confirmed.

- Quill's father is Ego the Living Planet, a Celestial, which also makes Mantis his half-sister. The Celestial power he inherits disappears along with Ego at the end of Vol. 2.
- He loses Gamora in Infinity War, then meets a 2014 version of her in Endgame who has no idea who he is.
- Vol. 3 ends with Quill stepping back from the job, naming Rocket captain and returning to Earth to meet his grandfather Jason.
