Gamora Watch Order: Every MCU Appearance
To watch Gamora in order, start with Guardians of the Galaxy and follow the 5 titles below in story order, ending (for now) with Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3. Gamora, Thanos’s adopted daughter, appears across the Guardians trilogy and the Avengers crossovers.
The releases run from 2014 to 2023. That works out to about 12h 17m of viewing in all.
Who is Gamora?
Jim Starlin created Gamora and gave her a first appearance in Strange Tales #180, cover dated June 1975. The premise was bleak from the start: the last of the Zen Whoberis, taken in by Thanos and raised as a weapon. Comics readers know her as an elite hand-to-hand fighter, a member of the Infinity Watch and later a Guardian of the Galaxy. Writers have also pushed her back toward the dark, most notably when she took up the identity of the assassin Requiem.
Zoe Saldaña has played her since Guardians of the Galaxy in 2014. That film opens with Gamora working for Thanos by way of Ronan, chasing the Orb. Vol. 2 in 2017 sharpens the rivalry with her sister Nebula, and Avengers: Infinity War in 2018 puts her relationship with Thanos at the emotional center of the film, with Ariana Greenblatt playing a young Gamora in flashback.
She is back in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 in 2023, though her situation has changed in ways the Avengers films explain. There is no confirmed future appearance, and Saldaña is not in the announced Avengers: Doomsday cast.
Spoiler Spoilers for Gamora’s story: tap to reveal
- Thanos sacrifices Gamora on Vormir in Infinity War to claim the Soul Stone, after Red Skull tells him it can only be taken by giving up someone he loves.
- Endgame brings a 2014 version of Gamora forward in time alongside Thanos, and present-day Nebula talks her into turning on him.
- That variant is the Gamora in Vol. 3, credited on screen as the 2014 variant. She carries none of the history Quill remembers, and she ends the film going back to the Ravagers instead of rejoining the team.
