Captain Marvel Watch Order: Every MCU Appearance

Start with Captain Marvel and work down the list. All 5 titles below are in story order, and for now the list ends with The Marvels. Carol Danvers starts in 1995 and ends up on the MCU’s cosmic front lines.

Counting 4 films and 1 series season, the whole list runs about 13h 31m, with releases from 2019 to 2023.

Who is Captain Marvel?

Carol Danvers arrived as a supporting player, not a hero. Roy Thomas and Gene Colan introduced her in Marvel Super-Heroes #13 (March 1968) as a U.S. Air Force officer orbiting the original Captain Marvel, the Kree warrior Mar-Vell. She gained powers of her own when an explosion fused her DNA with his, and debuted as Ms. Marvel in Ms. Marvel #1 (January 1977). The promotion took decades: in July 2012, Kelly Sue DeConnick and artist Dexter Soy put her in the Captain Marvel title, with a new costume designed by Jamie McKelvie.

Brie Larson plays her on screen, starting with Captain Marvel (2019), directed by Anna Boden and Ryan Fleck. Set mostly in 1995, the film opens on Hala with Danvers living as Vers, an amnesiac Kree Starforce soldier trained by Yon-Rogg and coached by the Supreme Intelligence to suppress her feelings. Crash-landing in Los Angeles alongside Nick Fury, she starts piecing together the life on Earth she can't remember.

Larson returned in Avengers: Endgame (2019), had a brief role in Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings (2021), and headlined The Marvels, released November 10, 2023. That film entangles her powers with Monica Rambeau and Kamala Khan and pits the three against the Kree leader Dar-Benn. As of now, Larson isn't in the announced cast for Avengers: Doomsday, due December 18, 2026.
