Marvel in 2020
For the first time since 2009, no MCU film came out. Black Widow was set for May 1, 2020, but Disney pulled it from the schedule in March after COVID-19 closed theaters, and it didn't come out until July 2021. Sony's Morbius, first dated for July 2020, kept moving too.
The only Marvel film of the year was The New Mutants, which had been set for April 2018 and was delayed several times before opening on August 28 under the new 20th Century Studios name. It made $49.2 million and closed out the Fox X-Men series. Television also wound down an era. Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. ended in August, and Hulu's Helstrom became the last live-action series from Marvel Television. Chadwick Boseman died on August 28.
