Why Marvel titles end up on Netflix
Netflix's Marvel lineup today mostly comes through Sony, not Disney. In April 2021, Sony Pictures signed a five-year deal that gave Netflix the US pay TV window for its new films starting in 2022, replacing Starz. That means Sony's Spider-Man-related movies, such as the Venom films and other entries in Sony's Spider-Man universe, can stream on Netflix during that window. These windows have end dates, though, so a film can come and go.
Netflix used to be the home of a whole corner of Marvel TV. Daredevil premiered in 2015, followed by Jessica Jones, Luke Cage, Iron Fist, The Punisher and The Defenders miniseries. Netflix canceled them in 2018 and 2019, and its license ended on March 1, 2022. Disney chose not to pay to keep the shows there and moved them to Disney+ on March 16, 2022, adding stricter parental controls to fit their TV-MA content.
Tips for watching Marvel on Netflix
- Watch Sony releases while they're on Netflix, since the pay TV window is time-limited.
- Look for Daredevil and the Defenders shows on Disney+, not Netflix.
- Check this page's live list before a movie night, because Sony titles rotate in and out.

FAQ
Is Spider-Man on Netflix?
Sometimes. Since 2022, Netflix has held the US pay TV window for new Sony Pictures films, so Sony's Spider-Man-related movies can show up there for a stretch after release. Later on, Sony titles also stream on Disney+ and Hulu under a separate Disney deal. Check the live list above for what's on Netflix right now.
Why are the Defenders shows not on Netflix anymore?
Netflix's license for the Marvel shows ended on March 1, 2022, and Disney regained the rights. Instead of paying to keep them on Netflix, Disney moved Daredevil, Jessica Jones, Luke Cage, Iron Fist, The Punisher and The Defenders to Disney+ starting March 16, 2022, in the US.
