Why it matters now
Sony's most notorious misfire, a clairvoyant-hero origin so poorly received it became shorthand for superhero-movie failure.
About Madame Web
Madame Web is set in 2003 New York, where Cassie Webb works as a paramedic. After a near-death experience she starts seeing flashes of the future, and they lead her to three teenagers, Julia Cornwall, Anya Corazón and Mattie Franklin, who are being hunted by Ezekiel Sims. Ezekiel is a man with spider-like powers who has seen visions of his own death and believes the girls are behind it. Cassie has to learn to control her gift while keeping the four of them alive.
S. J. Clarkson directed it as her first feature, from a script she wrote with Matt Sazama, Burk Sharpless and Claire Parker. Sony released it through Columbia Pictures on February 14, 2024, and it runs 116 minutes. Dakota Johnson stars, with Sydney Sweeney, Isabela Merced, Celeste O'Connor, Tahar Rahim, Emma Roberts and Adam Scott. Reviews were harsh, with a 10% Rotten Tomatoes score, and it made about $100.5 million worldwide.

How to watch it
Madame Web sits with Sony's Spider-Man Universe films, right after Morbius, but it doesn't lean on any of them, so you can watch it on its own. No MCU homework is needed, and Spider-Man himself doesn't appear. Mostly, it's for SSU completists and for fans who want to see Anya Corazón and Mattie Franklin, comics characters who rarely get screen time.
