Marvel in 1991
1991 was a quiet year, and its one new title is mostly a footnote. Power Pack, a live-action pilot developed by Paragon Entertainment and New World Television, aired once as a Saturday morning special on September 28. NBC had passed on it, and Fox, which picked it up, ordered no series. The pilot made big changes to the comic: the parents knew about their kids' powers, and the children wore no costumes.
The rest of Marvel's 1991 screen output was leftovers. Dolph Lundgren's The Punisher finally reached American audiences on home video in April, two years after it opened in Europe, and the Marvel Action Universe syndication block came to an end. Better things were close, though. The X-Men cartoon that would change Marvel's fortunes on TV premiered the next fall.
