How to build a good tier list

Start with the easy calls. Most people know their S tier and their D tier within a few seconds, so place those first and the middle sorts itself out faster. Tap a poster and a bar appears at the bottom of the screen with the five tiers; tap one and the film moves there. Tap a ranked poster to move it again or send it back to the unranked pile. On a computer you can drag posters between rows instead, and drop one on top of another to put it just before it.

Try to decide what a tier means to you before you start. Some people rank on pure rewatch value, some on how well a film works on its own, and some on how much it matters to the bigger story. Infinity War is a good test case: it’s a huge event film, but it ends on a cliffhanger, so where it lands says a lot about how you’re ranking. Picking one rule and sticking to it makes the finished list easier to defend in the group chat.

When you’re done, “Download image” saves a picture of your list with the posters, ready to post. If you want to compare notes, our best MCU movies ranking and the highest-rated MCU movies list show how critics and audiences line things up. Switch on “Sony, Fox & more” to add the non-MCU films, from Raimi’s Spider-Man to Logan.

Tier List FAQ

How do I rank films in the Marvel tier list maker?

Tap a poster, then tap S, A, B, C or D in the bar that appears. On a computer you can also drag a poster into a row, or press S, A, B, C or D on your keyboard after selecting it. Tap a ranked poster to move it or unrank it.

Can I rank the X-Men and Sony Spider-Man movies too?

Yes. Switch the filter above the unranked films to “Sony, Fox & more” to add 41 theatrical Marvel films made by Sony, Fox and other studios, every one with a reported box office.

Is my tier list saved?

Yes. Your rankings save in your browser automatically, so they’re still there when you come back on the same device.

Can I share my tier list?

“Download image” saves a PNG of your tier list with posters, which you can post anywhere. “Copy as text” copies the ranking as plain text for chats and forums.
