Why it’s worth knowing about
Nicolas Cage returns to the Spider-Verse in live action, playing a 1930s noir Spider-Man in Sony's TV series.
About Spider-Noir
Spider-Noir's first season brings Spider-Man Noir, the character Nicolas Cage voiced in Into the Spider-Verse, into live action, though this version comes from a different universe than the animated films. Cage plays Ben Reilly, a detective in an alternate 1930s New York who operates as The Spider. Across eight episodes of roughly 45 minutes, the season plays as a pulp crime story first and a superhero show second, and it belongs to Sony's Spider-Man Universe rather than the MCU.
Oren Uziel and Steve Lightfoot are the showrunners, developing it with Phil Lord, Christopher Miller and Amy Pascal, and Harry Bradbeer directed the first two episodes. Lamorne Morris, Li Jun Li, Karen Rodriguez, Abraham Popoola, Jack Huston and Brendan Gleeson round out the cast, and it marks Cage's first lead role in a TV series. All eight episodes were released at once in late May 2026. Reviews were positive, with a 92% Rotten Tomatoes score and particular praise for Cage.

- It was released in two versions: "Authentic Black & White" and "True-Hue Full Color."
- The world premiere was held at the Regal Times Square in New York on May 13, 2026.
- Cage also returns to voice Spider-Man Noir in Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse (2027).
- As of October 2026 a second season hasn't been confirmed, though Uziel has talked about a possible follow-up set during World War II.
How to watch it
No homework is needed, but watching Into the Spider-Verse first gives you the animated take on the character for comparison. Try the black-and-white version for the full noir mood; the color cut is there if monochrome isn't your thing. The eight episodes arrived together, so it binges easily. Crime-drama fans and anyone who enjoys Cage in a starring role will get more out of it than viewers hunting for MCU tie-ins.
