Why it’s worth knowing about
Frank Castle uncovers the conspiracy behind his family’s death. Bernthal’s Punisher returns in Daredevil: Born Again.
About The Punisher: Season 1
Season 1 of The Punisher picks up after Daredevil season 2. Frank thinks his war is over, and he's working a demolition job in New York, haunted by nightmares. Then a hacker calling himself Micro contacts him with footage tied to Frank's old Kandahar unit, Cerberus. That pulls Frank into a conspiracy reaching up to the CIA, with DHS agent Dinah Madani on his trail the whole time.
Steve Lightfoot ran the season, and all 13 episodes dropped on Netflix on November 17, 2017. Jon Bernthal returns as Frank, joined by Ebon Moss-Bachrach as Micro, Ben Barnes as Frank's old Marine friend Billy Russo, Amber Rose Revah as Madani, Paul Schulze as CIA official William Rawlins and Jason R. Moore as veteran Curtis Hoyle. Deborah Ann Woll appears as Karen Page. Critics were split, with 68% on Rotten Tomatoes, but the season won a Saturn Award and earned an Emmy nomination for its stunt work.

How to watch it
Watch Daredevil season 2 first. It introduces this version of Frank and the Karen Page friendship, and this season opens by tying up his story from that show. In the Netflix order it comes after The Defenders. The core episodes are 1, 3 and the last three. The season is brutal and grounded, so it's for viewers who like crime and military thrillers more than superhero action.

Yes. He returned as Frank Castle in Daredevil: Born Again in 2025 and also appears in Spider-Man: Brand New Day (2026).
