Why it’s worth knowing about
Introduced Banner's sister and deepened the show's emotional core, the penultimate season of the classic run.
About The Incredible Hulk: Season 4
The fourth season runs 18 episodes, from November 7, 1980, to May 22, 1981, and it goes deeper into what Banner's condition does to him. The two-part "Prometheus" traps him halfway through a transformation, held by a secret government project. In "Dark Side," his own experiments push him into a primitive state. In "The Harder They Fall," he is paralyzed and has to weigh whether to change on purpose. In the two-part "The First," he meets a man who was a Hulk before him and wants that power back.
Bill Bixby, Lou Ferrigno and Jack Colvin are back, and the main cast moves behind the camera too. Bixby directed "Bring Me the Head of the Hulk," in which a mercenary sets a trap for the creature, and Colvin directed "Goodbye, Eddie Cain." Charles Napier continues as the Hulk's voice.
Good to know
- "The First" introduces another man who was transformed into a Hulk-like creature years before Banner.
- "Prometheus" shows a half-transformed Banner, one of the few times the change stops partway.
- Bill Bixby directed "Bring Me the Head of the Hulk."
- Jack Colvin, who plays McGee, directed "Goodbye, Eddie Cain."
How to watch it
Watch this after season 3. It's the most experimental stretch of the show, so if you're short on time, go straight to the two-parters, "Prometheus" and "The First," then "The Harder They Fall" and the Bixby-directed "Bring Me the Head of the Hulk." These are the episodes that play most with how the transformation works, which makes the season a good fit for fans who like the science-fiction side of the Hulk.
