Do I Need to Watch WandaVision Before Avengers: Doomsday?

Verdict: Recommended. WandaVision (2021) isn't as load-bearing as Loki, but the Scarlet Witch is the multiverse's wild card, and her story starts here. It has also become required viewing for a different reason: VisionQuest, the Vision series that premiered on Disney+ on October 13, 2026, picks up directly from its finale.

What it sets up

Wanda Maximoff's transformation into the Scarlet Witch, the Darkhold, and the idea that grief plus chaos magic can rewrite reality itself. It also introduces Agatha Harkness and the twins Billy and Tommy, characters who keep resurfacing across the Multiverse Saga (Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, Agatha All Along).

The other thread is easy to forget: the finale leaves Vision in a very particular place, and that is where VisionQuest picks him up.

Spoilers for Infinity War and WandaVision: tap to reveal

S.W.O.R.D. rebuilds the Vision who died in Infinity War as an all-white weapon, and in the finale the Vision Wanda created restores his memories before he flies off. That "White Vision" has not been seen since, and he is the lead of VisionQuest.

What you'll miss if you skip it

Why Wanda is the most powerful, and most unstable, being in the multiverse, and why her "death" in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness never quite stuck. Elizabeth Olsen is not in the announced Avengers: Doomsday cast, so treat any Scarlet Witch return as speculation. If she does come back, in Doomsday or Secret Wars, this is her origin story.

Skip it and VisionQuest will also make far less sense. Its eight episodes follow on from Vision's storyline here and bring back James Spader as Ultron. The show is billed as the last part of a trilogy with WandaVision and Agatha All Along.

Before Doomsday or before VisionQuest?

If you only care about Doomsday, WandaVision is a strong recommendation rather than homework; Doomsday's multiverse plot leans on Loki, Deadpool & Wolverine and The Fantastic Four: First Steps far more. If you’re watching VisionQuest, which premiered on Disney+ on October 13, 2026, treat it as essential, and add Agatha All Along if you want the Tommy and Billy story to land. Our VisionQuest prep guide has the short list, and the Vision watch order covers every appearance from Age of Ultron on.

The quick alternative

Short on time? Read our Scarlet Witch watch order for the plot beats, or watch the first three episodes plus the last three, which cover the sitcom setup, the reveal of what Wanda has done to Westview, and the finale. The full show is nine episodes, most around half an hour with a longer finale, so it is one of the easier binges in the MCU and genuinely great television. It streams on Disney+. FAQ

Is Wanda dead in the MCU?

Unconfirmed. She appeared to die destroying the Darkhold in Doctor Strange 2, but Marvel has never confirmed it, and Agatha All Along deliberately left the question open.

Do I need Agatha All Along too?

No. It’s a fun follow-up, not a prerequisite. WandaVision is the one that matters for the multiverse plot.

How long is WandaVision?

Nine episodes, roughly five and a half hours in total. Most episodes run about half an hour; the finale is closer to fifty minutes.

Do I need WandaVision before VisionQuest?

Yes. VisionQuest picks up directly from the end of WandaVision, and it premiered on Disney+ on October 13, 2026.
