What's New in Avengers Endgame: Encore, and Do You Need It Before Doomsday?

Avengers Endgame: Encore is Marvel's theatrical re-release of the 2019 film, in theaters from September 25, 2026. It adds an introduction from Chris Evans and Robert Downey Jr. and a handful of new scenes built to lead into Avengers: Doomsday on December 18. If you can catch it before Doomsday, watch it instead of the regular cut. If you can't, the regular Avengers: Endgame still tells the whole story; you'd only miss a few minutes of setup.

What is Avengers Endgame: Encore?

It's the same film you know, re-released under the title Avengers Endgame: Encore. That's Marvel's own styling, with the colon after "Endgame" rather than "Avengers". The original cut runs 181 minutes, and standard Encore screenings add about two minutes on top, counting the new footage and a "silence your cellphones" spot, so plan for a little over three hours.

Encore is getting an IMAX release and Disney's Infinity Vision certification for premium large formats. Those premium screenings also include an exclusive look at Doomsday, which adds another three to four minutes. Interest is clearly there: the Encore trailer drew 77 million views in 24 hours, the most for any re-release trailer.

This isn't Endgame's first trip back to theaters. A re-release on June 28, 2019 added seven minutes of post-credits material: a Stan Lee tribute, an unfinished deleted scene and the opening of Spider-Man: Far From Home. Encore is a separate, new version.

What's new in Endgame: Encore?

All of this has been reported in coverage of the re-release. The new scenes reveal setup for Doomsday, so the details are tucked away below.

The ending is extended: Steve Rogers and Peggy Carter get a visit from the 2012 variant of Loki. A mid-credits scene shows Bruce Banner, living in isolation after Spider-Man: Brand New Day, being collected by Doctor Doom (Robert Downey Jr.). Another scene has the TVA, including Mobius and Ouroboros, detecting incursions between universes. And the clanging heard over the original post-credits, first heard when Tony Stark forged his armor in Iron Man (2008), is reworked into Doom forging his mask.

Do I need to watch Endgame: Encore before Avengers: Doomsday?

You need Endgame. Whether you need the extra few minutes is less clear.

Co-director Joe Russo has called the re-release "critically important" and "required viewing" for following Doomsday's story. That's a big claim for a few minutes of footage. Both things can be true: the new material was made specifically to set up Doomsday, and it's still a few minutes.

Our honest take: if a screening is convenient, go, because it's the only new material built to lead into the next film. If it isn't, don't panic. Doomsday has to work for a huge audience, most of whom won't see a re-release. That's our read, not a confirmed fact.

Should I watch Encore or the normal Endgame?

If Encore is playing near you, pick Encore. The story is identical, and you get the new bridge footage and credits scenes on top. Watching Encore and the regular cut back to back would mean six hours of mostly the same film, which is a lot even by Marvel-marathon standards.

If you're short on time, or Encore has left your local theaters, the regular cut is fine. Just know you've skipped the few minutes aimed squarely at Doomsday.

How to watch Endgame: Encore (and is it on Disney+?)

Encore is a theatrical release from September 25, 2026, including IMAX and other premium formats, and Marvel links to tickets from its official Avengers: Endgame page. Re-release runs tend to be short, so check your local listings before planning a night around it.

The regular Endgame streams on Disney+, where it has been exclusive since November 12, 2019. Marvel hasn't said whether Encore will be added to Disney+, so check the app before you count on it.

Where Encore fits in a pre-Doomsday rewatch

Treat Encore as your Endgame slot. Because the new footage bridges into Doomsday, it works best as close to Doomsday as you can manage.

How Encore relates to the regular Endgame

Encore isn't a new entry on the MCU timeline. It's a version of Avengers: Endgame (2019), with the same story and the same place in every watch order, plus a short bridge to Doomsday. Our Endgame page covers the film itself; this page covers what Encore adds. Wherever you see Endgame on our lists, either cut counts.
